I don't know about you, but the thought of dead bodies rising out of the ground as preached by some, is a little scary. The Walking Dead, Zombies...this is the stuff of Hollywood; although admittedly, they probably got the idea from the Bible.
After all, since God and Satan are spirits, Ghosts and Goblins are not a far stretch; especially if you want to mock scripture. Zombies? Doesn't Lazarus come to mind?
God is God and there's nothing he can't do, but I don't think the physical rising from the grave is what he meant. I mean, what about those who were cremated? Even buried, the bodies eventually turn to dust. So, what rises? Do you really believe the "God knows what you look like and reforms your body from the dust and ashes?"
Jesus was raised from the dead as a physical example..just as the appearance of Moses and Elijah at the transfiguration shows that there is life after death.
Do not be deceived: There will be no dead bodies, bones or ashes, floating up to heaven. Our body is simply the "earthen" vessel (the tabernacle of God) that houses our spirit . The only thing living or dead about us, is the spirit within us; which returns to God when we die and we receive either eternal life or eternal damnation.
Jesus was talking about the spiritually dead hearing his voice, not the physically dead. As God breathed physical life into the first Adam, he breathed spiritual life into the second Adam (Jesus). We are, and will remain, "dead," until Jesus calls us, God breathes life into our spirit, and we are reborn Spiritually (first the physical, then the spiritual).
Until you're reborn Spiritually...nothing else matters.
