Promises, Promises

It's interesting that there is no mention of eternal life in the Old Testament.

One can surmise that this was revealed to us by Jesus; but in fact, very little is said about the afterlife in the Bible...nothing is concrete, it's all supposition.

Is it any wonder that Christianity spread so rapidly among the Jew and Gentiles?  Here's your choice, live and die or live, die and go to heaven...which would you prefer? 

The afterlife and immortality was added to the Jewish religion in the first century, in large part (my opinion) to stop the "exodus" of Jews to Christianity.  It was the old, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em."

After all, Christianity offered Jews a release from the "law" (no more sacrificing bulls and goats) and the promise of eternal life.  I mean, who wouldn't be attracted to that?

Today, preachers tell us to just say a little prayer and all your sins past, present and future are forgiven; and you will have a mansion in heaven where you will be reunited with loved ones.  Sounds great, doesn't it?

I mean, c'mon, only a fool would pass up that offer...but is it true?

Preachers will promise anything to fill the pews and collection plate, because no one can dispute what they say...and you won't know if they're right or wrong until you die. 

What if they're wrong?  Can you think of a better way to deceive than from the pulpit?

If they're wrong they get a millstone hung around their neck for deceiving you; but you get to spend eternity in hell.

Do Not Be Deceived: Mansions notwithstanding, there's only one way to be assured of eternal life, "Ye must be born again."  Whether Jew or Gentile, Jesus said, unless you're born again you cannot see or enter the kingdom.

And that's why I say, until you're reborn Spiritually...nothing else matters.

There's A New World Coming

Believing in the "Rapture" relieves you of the responsibility to do anything except believe in Jesus...who will magically whisk you away to heaven. It's a lie, designed to keep you from preparing or being prepared for what's coming.

A lot of well-known and well-respected preachers talk about how long they have been preaching, as if the longer one preaches the more qualified one is to preach.

A Part or Apart?

This may seem a strange question, but it never ceases to amaze me how few people allow God to play an active role in their daily lives. Why anyone would not want the creator of the universe to help them every second, every minute and every hour of every day, is simply beyond me.

The $64,000 Question

The question in Psalms 15, "Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle?" probably has as many answers as there are preachers, but they all stem from a common belief: "Everyone who believes in Jesus goes to heaven." Sounds great, but is it true?
