Our forefathers understood that when we die, we enter into God's rest...thus, you see "Rest In Peace" or "RIP" on many gravestones.
Today, preachers love to promote that when we die, we get to party with friends and loved ones in a mansion on streets of gold. We get to live a new life, just like the one we have on earth...only better.
Sorry to disappoint, but this view of "heaven" is not supported by scripture; nor is kneeling before God and worshiping him for eternity...the only position supported by scripture, old and new testaments, is "sleep."
With very few exceptions, everyone in the Bible who dies goes to "sleep with their fathers."
Now, before you have a conniption fit consider...sleep is not a bad thing; in fact, sleep is the most merciful.
Partying with friends? What if Dad, or God forbid, Mom, wasn't there? How would you like to think, for eternity, about loved ones in hell? God would not do that to his kids. Heaven is not a continual party with friends; heaven is just a cemetery for souls where we (good and bad) will "sleep" until judgement.
Don't worry about those who have passed; their fate is already sealed and there's nothing you can do about it anyway. If it helps you to think they're waiting for you in heaven, or watching over you on earth, okay; believe whatever you want; no one can disprove it. In fact, heaven can be anything you want it to be because you won't know until you die. If you want to believe "heaven" is a playground for "believers," have at it. Of course if you're wrong, it will be too late to do anything about it.
You see, "Heaven" is not the issue...it's judgement. "Heaven" is just a place to rest until you stand before God to be judged...at that time, according to your works, you will receive either eternal life or be tossed into the lake of fire and brimstone. "Heaven" notwithstanding, what you do on earth will determine where you will spend eternity.
Here Is Wisdom:
Stop focusing on the afterlife, and start focusing on life today.
How you live your life matters...it will determine your eternal future.
