Ask Not, What God Can Do For You...

Ray Evans • January 26, 2020
A lot of preachers use the "Ask, Seek, Knock" passage to fill the pews and collection plate...promising a Spiritual ATM machine to anyone and everyone who "believes."

The "Name it and Claim it Theology" tickles the ears.  Just "Ask," and God will give it to you (if you have enough faith, of course); I mean, the Bible says so, doesn't it?...didn't Jesus say, "If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it." (John 14:14)

Let's clarify a couple things...First, God does not hear the prayers of sinners (John 9:31).  Next, even if you are a child of God, he's not going to fulfill your every whim and desire (James 4:3).  God will not give you something that will hurt or eventually hurt you...no matter how bad you want it.  God knows the end, from the beginning. (Isaiah 46:10)

It's unfulfilled "promises" that discourage people...pushing them farther away from God; and, rightfully so; if you're coming to God to get stuff, that's the wrong reason.  The Bible is very clear, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you."  (Matthew 6:33)

If you truly want to change your life; acknowledge you're a sinner in need of a savior and get down on your knees and pray as I prayed, "God, if you're real, I want to know."

If you're sincere, God will reveal himself to you in his time, in his way, according to his purpose.  He will breathe life into your spirit; and you will no longer hope, assume or even believe God is real...you will know it.  This...is why you "Ask, Seek and Knock."

Because until you know, without a doubt, God is real...nothing else matters.

Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth
By Ray Evans May 9, 2020
Believing in the "Rapture" relieves you of the responsibility to do anything except believe in Jesus...who will magically whisk you away to heaven. It's a lie, designed to keep you from preparing or being prepared for what's coming.
Job 32:9 Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.

A lot of well-known and well-respected preachers talk about how long they have been preaching, as if the longer one preaches the more qualified one is to preach.
Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom

This may seem a strange question, but it never ceases to amaze me how few people allow God to play an active role in their daily lives. Why anyone would not want the creator of the universe to help them every second, every minute and every hour of every day, is simply beyond me.
Psalms 15:1 Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?
By Ray Evans May 6, 2020
The question in Psalms 15, "Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle?" probably has as many answers as there are preachers, but they all stem from a common belief: "Everyone who believes in Jesus goes to heaven." Sounds great, but is it true?
