Doing Good, Is Good; But

Ray Evans • February 18, 2020
While volunteering is a good thing, we are not saved by doing good things...we do good things because we are saved.  God expects us to be and do good. (Leviticus 20:25)

When James said "Faith, if it hath not works, is dead" he was not referring to doing good things...he was talking about obedience to the law.  Faith without obedience, is no faith.

In the first covenant, God required obedience to the law (works).  He didn't change his mind with the new covenant.  He just sent a helper (The Holy Spirit) to assist them in keeping the law.  Obedience, is still the prerequisite for life and blessing.

It's not that you can't, God's laws are not grievous...it's that you won't.  Lying, cheating, stealing has become an acceptable way of life...but not to God.  Taking office supplies home without permission, is still stealing...and lying to your spouse, boss, or anyone else, well?

Do not be deceived: A lot of preachers say, "We're not under the law, we're under grace;" but he Bible says we will be judged "according to our works." (Revelation 20:12-13)  How you live your life, matters...it's how you will be judged.

It's Grace (the gift of the Holy Spirit - the divine influence on the heart) thru Faith (the moral conviction of a religious truth) that allows us to keep the law.  Without it, we fail.

Doing good things is good; but the highest priority in life is pleasing God; and until you are reborn Spiritually, you will not be able to please God (Hebrews 11:6).

Jesus said, "Ye must be born again..." (John 3:3)

Until then, nothing else matters.

Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth

Believing in the "Rapture" relieves you of the responsibility to do anything except believe in Jesus...who will magically whisk you away to heaven. It's a lie, designed to keep you from preparing or being prepared for what's coming.
Job 32:9 Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.

A lot of well-known and well-respected preachers talk about how long they have been preaching, as if the longer one preaches the more qualified one is to preach.
Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom

This may seem a strange question, but it never ceases to amaze me how few people allow God to play an active role in their daily lives. Why anyone would not want the creator of the universe to help them every second, every minute and every hour of every day, is simply beyond me.
Psalms 15:1 Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?
By Ray Evans May 6, 2020
The question in Psalms 15, "Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle?" probably has as many answers as there are preachers, but they all stem from a common belief: "Everyone who believes in Jesus goes to heaven." Sounds great, but is it true?
