What Really Matters

Ray Evans • February 19, 2020
This is my favorite scripture to quote as my wife drags me to the fitness club every morning...along with "God knows the number of my days," (Exodus 23:26) and "I can't make one hair black or white" (Matthew 5:36)

God controls the quantity of life; the number of our days...longer or shorter is in God's hands; but we do have some influence over the quality of our life.

Good health makes the "number of our days" a whole lot better than bad health.

Observing the rows of people on the treadmills and bikes, I remarked to my wife, "I think this is where the Beatles got the inspiration for "All the lonely people."

These were not "happy" people and it occurred to me that the reason "free health care" or "health care" in general is such a big deal today is because people are afraid to die...which is curious given that 85% of Americans think they're going to heaven.

If they're going to heaven, why would they be afraid to die?  Truth be told, they don't really believe in heaven and hell; because they don't really believe in God.

Oh, they hope heaven is real, just like they hope God is real; but if their life depended on it, when push comes to shove, they don't really know, without a doubt, God is real.

Until they do, nothing else matters.

Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth

Believing in the "Rapture" relieves you of the responsibility to do anything except believe in Jesus...who will magically whisk you away to heaven. It's a lie, designed to keep you from preparing or being prepared for what's coming.
Job 32:9 Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.

A lot of well-known and well-respected preachers talk about how long they have been preaching, as if the longer one preaches the more qualified one is to preach.
Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom

This may seem a strange question, but it never ceases to amaze me how few people allow God to play an active role in their daily lives. Why anyone would not want the creator of the universe to help them every second, every minute and every hour of every day, is simply beyond me.
Psalms 15:1 Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?
By Ray Evans May 6, 2020
The question in Psalms 15, "Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle?" probably has as many answers as there are preachers, but they all stem from a common belief: "Everyone who believes in Jesus goes to heaven." Sounds great, but is it true?
