Fear Is Not Of The Lord

Ray Evans • January 15, 2020
How many times have you heard it said, "Fear is not of the Lord?"  I know I say it all the time...at least every time I see or hear someone showing or expressing "fear."  But, did you know that phrase is nowhere in the Bible?

It's certainly intimated; and there are over 300 verses about fear in scripture.  Perhaps the most familiar is "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge" (Proverbs 1:7)

But "fear" of the Lord and being afraid of snakes is not quite the same thing.  I say "not quite," because as Jesus said, "don't fear one who can kill the body, fear the one who has the power to destroy both soul and body in hell." (Matthew 10:28)

The reason we have so many problems today is that no one is "afraid" of God any more.  People think he's powerless; or worse, he doesn't exist.  I blame the church for promoting a "God of love;" a God who loves everyone and would never hurt anyone, especially us.

Do not be deceived: God is love; but God is also a jealous God (Exodus 20:5)

"Fear" is simply a lack of trust in God's ability to provide and protect...put another way, you simply don't believe God is real; because when you know, without a doubt, God is real; you know there's nothing to be afraid of; to wit, "If God be for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31).

It's a recurring theme of this site and I know you are going to get tired of hearing me say it; but...

Until you know, without a doubt, God is real...nothing else matters.

Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth

Believing in the "Rapture" relieves you of the responsibility to do anything except believe in Jesus...who will magically whisk you away to heaven. It's a lie, designed to keep you from preparing or being prepared for what's coming.
Job 32:9 Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.

A lot of well-known and well-respected preachers talk about how long they have been preaching, as if the longer one preaches the more qualified one is to preach.
Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom

This may seem a strange question, but it never ceases to amaze me how few people allow God to play an active role in their daily lives. Why anyone would not want the creator of the universe to help them every second, every minute and every hour of every day, is simply beyond me.
Psalms 15:1 Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?
By Ray Evans May 6, 2020
The question in Psalms 15, "Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle?" probably has as many answers as there are preachers, but they all stem from a common belief: "Everyone who believes in Jesus goes to heaven." Sounds great, but is it true?
