Food For Thought

When I hear preachers quote this scripture, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue" (Proverbs 18:21) I know what's coming: a sermon on how our words can affect the hearer...they have the "power" to lift up or tear down.  It's a common sermon.

I don't disagree; obviously our words can affect the hearer...tell a child how bad he (or she) is and voila, you'll get a "bad" child.  Criticize your spouse long enough and you could wind up in divorce court...build them up and they'll be yours forever.

I agree, words can hurt or heal...but consider this:

In the late eighties we owned a fitness club.  It was on the first floor of an office building and catered to the tenants.  Since there was no restaurant in the building, we decided to add a "Deli" to the club...basically soup, salads and sandwiches.

As I was reading Proverbs 18, a light bulb came on.

I had read that all diseases have their origin in animal fat...knowing the danger of eating animal fat, God said, "all the fat is the Lord's."  His instructions were simple; don't eat the fat or drink the blood (this was a perpetual statute). (Leviticus 3:16-17)

Unfortunately, "taste" is also in the fat.  Since the tongue is the "taste" organ, it follows that "life and death" vis-à-vis the food we eat, is in the tongue.

Here is wisdom: Eat to live, don't live to eat

Of course, until you're reborn Spiritually...nothing else matters.

Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth

Believing in the "Rapture" relieves you of the responsibility to do anything except believe in Jesus...who will magically whisk you away to heaven. It's a lie, designed to keep you from preparing or being prepared for what's coming.
Job 32:9 Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.

A lot of well-known and well-respected preachers talk about how long they have been preaching, as if the longer one preaches the more qualified one is to preach.
Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom

This may seem a strange question, but it never ceases to amaze me how few people allow God to play an active role in their daily lives. Why anyone would not want the creator of the universe to help them every second, every minute and every hour of every day, is simply beyond me.
Psalms 15:1 Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?
By Ray Evans May 6, 2020
The question in Psalms 15, "Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle?" probably has as many answers as there are preachers, but they all stem from a common belief: "Everyone who believes in Jesus goes to heaven." Sounds great, but is it true?
