What's It All About, Alfie

Ray Evans • March 9, 2020
I don't know how many, if any, remember the 1966 movie "Alfie" with Michael Caine.

It's a story of sin and consequences.

I'm not recommending the movie, but it ends poignantly when Alfie poses the question we all ask about life, "What's it all about?"

I mean, why are we here?  What's the point?  And, ultimately, "Is this all there is?"

After thirty years of walking and talking with God, I think I can offer some insight.

It was never God's plan for us to live, die and go to "heaven."

He created the "earth" for us to enjoy.  All he asks is that we obey.  He gave us "freewill" (the ability to choose) to obey or disobey; and put his laws into our heart and mind.  He hoped we would obey, but it was our choice.

Obedience to God and his word would be rewarded with life and blessing, now and forever; disobedience brings death and cursing, now and forever.  Eternal life or eternal damnation...you choose.

"What's it all about, Alfie?"  Choices.

Life is about making the right choices.

"Alfie" made some bad choices...choosing to sin always has consequences; the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23)

Choosing to obey God brings life and blessing...but you won't obey God, and thus, you won't experience true life and blessing (now or forever) until you know, without a doubt, God is real.

God is Spirit.  The only way to know God is real is to be reborn Spiritually; it's why Jesus said, "Ye must be born again."  It's not an option.

Until you are reborn Spiritually; until you know, without a doubt, God is real...nothing else matters.

Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth
By Ray Evans May 9, 2020
Believing in the "Rapture" relieves you of the responsibility to do anything except believe in Jesus...who will magically whisk you away to heaven. It's a lie, designed to keep you from preparing or being prepared for what's coming.
Job 32:9 Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.

A lot of well-known and well-respected preachers talk about how long they have been preaching, as if the longer one preaches the more qualified one is to preach.
Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom

This may seem a strange question, but it never ceases to amaze me how few people allow God to play an active role in their daily lives. Why anyone would not want the creator of the universe to help them every second, every minute and every hour of every day, is simply beyond me.
Psalms 15:1 Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?
By Ray Evans May 6, 2020
The question in Psalms 15, "Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle?" probably has as many answers as there are preachers, but they all stem from a common belief: "Everyone who believes in Jesus goes to heaven." Sounds great, but is it true?
